Local Spotlight: Atlanta Humane Society
Beyond sheltering local strays and finding their forever homes, the Atlanta Humane Society's mission has been about protecting and taking care of animals since 1873. That mission expands across the entire southeast - especially in times of crisis. Over the past few weeks, the Atlanta Humane Society has proved its strength and commitment to what their organization stands for.
Leading up to Hurricane Harvey, the Atlanta Humane Society prepared to aid our Southern neighbors from 800 miles away. AHS offered free adoptions for all animals one year and up to make room for the loads of rescues coming from evacuated cities. Donations were matched to double the funds provided for relief efforts and 205 pets found homes that week. As over 100 animals from Houston SPCA joined the Atlanta Humane Society, 293 more pets found homes the next week.
When Hurricane Irma hit closer to home, Florida shelters were cleared so they could take on lost and displaced animals who may have owners looking for them locally. The Atlanta Humane Society took in 424 animals at their a temporary emergency shelter located in Roswell. A two-day adoption event helped 85 pets to find new homes around Atlanta. An additional 150 animals have since arrived and the Atlanta Humane Society is asking for donations in support of their cause.

Join the Atlanta Humane Society on October 15th for Walk For the Animals. The 5k walk will take place at Atlantic Station for owners and pets (on a leash) to participate. All money raised will go to the continued support and care for the rescued animals at Atlanta Humane Society. Registration is free! This is the organization's largest fundraising event of the year, so set up a donation page and share to support the cause.
