Buckhead Neighborhood Guide: Margaret Mitchell

Welcome to Margaret Mitchell!

Located off Moores Mill and West Wesley

Margaret Mitchell was developed in the 1950s and the community was originally named Cherokee Forest. The highly desirable neighborhood is surrounded by top schools including The Westminster Schools, The Lovett School, Trinity School, Pace Academy, and Morris Brandon Primary Center (previously Margaret Mitchell School) located on Margaret Mitchell Drive.

Bordering the neighborhood, 1450 West Wesley Road is thought to be the oldest home in Buckhead. It dates back to the 1830s and was relocated from Northwest Georgia in the 1950s. Architect Norman Askins led an expert restoration, renovation, and expansion. Original features still remain in tact, including Heart Pine flooring, dentil crown moulding, and the front portico.

The Margaret Mitchell neighborhood features a variety of architectural styles as development continues over the years, but it is known for its abundance of mid-century properties. Margaret Mitchell Civic Associaton funds security, social events, and representation on Buckhead Council of Neighborhoods.
